PO I'm not surprised at. ... Was the NWS staffed by civies or military?

both...I worked on the civil side as a computer programming intern... taught myself their programming language and was the third best programmer out of a dozen within half a summer semester...most of them just slept all day with their doors closed "to concentrate" or "block the noise"...

but anytime I had interface with the military side to verify inventory/stock it was like playing Where's Waldo for half the day to find someone actually in a warehouse and not down the block at the porn stores jacking..

If both of those don't work and it is a "lost cause" sometimes a few taps of a hammer on the compressor can sometimes get it working for an indefinite amount of time(sometimes a day, sometimes a year). Try @jan 's suggestion first because, if the compressor is dying, you don't want a stuck fan to make it have to work overtime. Don't smash it with the hammer but, not a light 'tap' either. @Devil_Dawg calls it 'percussive maintenance'. Working in tons of restaurants and talking to repairmen while they were fixing fridges/coolers is where this tip comes from. Good luck but, worth a try.

Yeah nobody in IT usually works too hard, I've got a buddy who handles active directory things for defense contractors, he works about 1 1/2 out of each day and is one of their harder workers.

Yeah nobody in IT usually works too hard, I've got a buddy who handles active directory things for defense contractors, he works about 1 1/2 out of each day and is one of their harder workers.

biggest mistake of my life not sticking with that...could have retired at 40 and been making triple digits for working 2 hours a day....

This is so true. We lost power for 5 days due to an ice storm 4 years ago I think, it was the 5 days leading up to Christmas. We had all our food in totes in the snow.

Yeah, I did computer engineering. but meh its mind numbing and nothing really pays anything crazy in Delaware anyway. So what do I decide to do, be an ironworker of course. Its the logical next step.

I couldn't stand being cooped in a tiny cubicle and Charleston was a hillbilly hellhole in the 80's....so I took the next logical step and got a degree in music business and started throwing raves...lol

Yeah I'm union so its not too bad, annuity, pension and all the insurances are all on top of the cash value so it actually doesn't really work out to be a negative thing. Then I get to climb buildings and do goofy things all day.
