I am new to the forum, I have been working on Mturk for several months but I am brand new to the forum.

The amount of Hits available has dropped drastically in the past few days.

Does anyone know if this is do to people taking off for the Holidays?

It will be slow, I think, until after the New Year - perhaps until schools start back up in Jan. Though, this is mturk. All things are possible (and not possible .

Yes, this is absolutely due to people taking days off for the holidays. Some even say that this would be the slowest time of the year.
