It's actually not a bad idea at all to email requesters about quals that you want. It can really pay off sometimes. I just usually say something like, "Hey, I noticed the batch that you had up and I'm curious if you ever open that qual to new workers and how I could go about getting it." If you can see the types of HITs that they are, it also doesn't hurt to maybe throw in a comment about how that's the type of stuff that you like working on or that you're good at. Most of the time, if they reply at all, they'll tell you they're not currently looking for workers, but sometimes they'll let you know when they plan on posting new quals, and I've even had a few that just assigned me the qual without even saying anything.

But that would require my communicating with people. Which doesn't typically go well for me.
