I'm not sure of the reasons why, but pretty much everything I've ever read about taxes has stated that anything that qualifies as self-employment income (which would be mturk money) always needs to be reported.

Yep...I never make enough to actually pay taxes, but I have to pay what I think is a big chunk for social security. Fair enough

Don't you have to make over 13k to pay anything. Then its only like 20% of any amount after that for self-employed people.
