Don't you have to make over 13k to pay anything. Then its only like 20% of any amount after that for self-employed people.

Self employed need to pay on low amounts too... the part that employers normally pay. I made ~$1395 last year and owe $100 to federal (would be more but I can get the earned income credit.)

Did you make over 13k total income though? because that makes sense. I think if mturk/self-employment is only source of income then anything under 13k/poverty line amount is wiped with the standard deduction. Then the 15.3 tax would come into affect on anything over standard deduction.

That's my very limited google-powered non-professional understanding anyway lol
