I'm hopeful that I can *really* spend more time here, but honestly today might be a fluke. Right now I have time because my 2-year-old and husband are both sick and asleep. But a girl can dream, right?!
I'm just holding on by a thread until school starts back up, so I feel for you!

So this is something I found interesting, somewhat related to not submitting a survey you worked hard on due to risk of rejection.

It's human nature to over-weigh potential losses when comparing to potential gains. People will decline taking a gamble that on average would be profitable if there is something to lose (ie, 50% to gain $6 vs 50% to lose $5.) The theory is that the unpleasant feeling of loss has a value that the potential upside has to overcome for a person to choose it. It's often illogical.

Because this is a popular topic in psychology a lot of requesters on mturk will ask questions about this phenomena framed in different ways.

Update to : Despairagus has no chill about the $11 hit shenanigans

He emailed me back, gave me a link to complete the code, and says he'll approve. Not sure how since it's not a survey on mturk now but I guess we'll figure it out.

Gotta love how the reply is quick when the timer isn't counting down on the hit. :aveeyeroll:

Does it somehow reflect badly on your worker account if you don't return a HIT and allow it to expire instead?

I find sour cream blends a bit better but, same idea.:)

On that note, you may lose a bit of flavor, since sour cream is a bit milder, imo. Maybe a soft goat cheese would be a good middle ground.:)

A chef in our midst...?

At some point in my life I was. But, I've also been cooking and learning to cook for almost 40 years and just love to create things. Plus, I've had great food places but, to get perfect food, I usually have to make it myself. Of course, everyone has a different idea of perfect so, it makes sense that I would be the only person to accurately achieve the exact flavor profile that I'm tasting in my head.:p

Fwiw, a lot of this kind of research is useless because it fails to account for the fact that the real value of money to a person isn't necessarily linear. For example, if you bring $10 to work with you for lunch and someone offers you some kind of slightly profitable $10 wager, it's completely rational to pass on that wager, because you'll be starving all afternoon if you lose.

I enjoy cooking, too. I enjoy experimenting. And I know what you mean, about aiming to achieve that imagined flavor profile that's tickling the back of your palate.
