Star Wars is not a western. Actually it's based on a Japanese samurai movie, ''The Hidden Fortress''....I forget who the director was.

Doesn't matter if he based it on something... it's been analyzed over and over... it is still made up of western tropes, plotlines, themes, etc.

(ETA: he has said that THF is why he chose HOW he presented it... that doesn't change thematically what it follows/how it flows though )

You're talking about bad sci-fi and fantasy. Good sci-fi and fantasy create worlds where the rules are different from ours but the story is still bound by those rules so the stories remain internally consistent. Bad sci-fi and fantasy are inconsistent in their rules and will pull deus ex machina out of thin air anytime they write themselves into a corner.

Exactly like all those spaghetti westerns . All based on Japanese samurai movies. For example, The Magnificent Seven is the Seven Samurai, by Akira Kurasawa. And all those very famous Eastwood westerns? All samurai movies. They're not 'westerns', they're 'easterns'. The sources are older than our west.

Dude, I am 100% on the side of tech in this equation. There are 50 reasons why superior range and everything else makes them better.

when i watch a movie and someones in danger, I try to think, "what would I do to get out of this?" and if I know someone has a gun, theres no way they should be sword fighting. It just makes me anygry.

I HATED that scene in Captain america Civil war where the heroes fight each other. I knew they would all pull their punches no one would die, making the scene pretty lame.
