Anyone ever worked for Appen? Are they decent to work for?

Depends on the projects. Some of them are very well managed and some are the opposite. I'm on a couple now that are sort of in a "we're aware there are issues with the project, we have no idea why, we are going to stop responding and we'll get back to you when we get back to you" kind of situations.

I worked for Lionbridge for a while and they were a nightmare...so trying to avoid waltzing back into another fiasco. Are they good with communication? And do they give you time to adjust as a new employee?

I worked for Lionbridge for a while and they were a nightmare...so trying to avoid waltzing back into another fiasco. Are they good with communication? And do they give you time to adjust as a new employee?

They're pretty good about letting new employees adjust and aren't too harsh about requirements, but communication unfortunately also varies depending on the project. The best way to find out what to do is join a couple projects and jump in the chat channels for those projects. They're usually pretty active and people will usually say stuff like "I'm on project X and it's like 10000x better than this one" so you can figure out where the good ones are. Also doesn't hurt to just qualify for a few and wait to see which ones get their s*** together.

Some of the qualifications are easy 20-30 question quizzes you can just control+F through the guidelines to find the answers to and some have like 100-200 page guides that you kinda have to read through before you take the test, so again you have to check them out and pick and choose with those.

Yeah I was really sad when my project ended. It was just straight up better than a regular part-time job in like 10 ways. But I think it really depends on which project you get assigned to. My partner got assigned to a mobile-based project, and it was a lot more annoying and time consuming of a task than the project I was doing at home on my computer. I'd be more specific, but Appen has lots of NDAs and stuff.

For a quick update, I joined a project that I was added to yesterday. I was having technical issues a couple hours ago and emailed them, they just responded and the issue is fixed. So again, some projects are great with communication!
