Last night I called the fire department.....twice. A transformer (?) a few houses down from us was sparking - not a little, but a LOT. It looked like the 4th of July. The first time, I thought it would do that and just go out - and we'd all lose power. But power stayed on. So, then I worried about a fire at one of the other houses. The fire department is just down the street, and they came out with flashlights (in the rain and ice!) and couldn't see anything.
He was like, "It's like that noise in your car, it stops when you take it in the shop"

Then it happened again - lit up the whole street. And they came back out, put out cones - and.....idk. In Florida, we lost power all the time, but you'd hear the noise and the transformer would just 'blow'. Here it looked like a fire for sure.......but we never lost power.

eta: Oh! GM'ing :)

wow, that is crazy. i've never seen a transformer just blow on its own. transformers are on poles here and blowing has been related to being struck by lightning and you will see it "explode" like a firework. I hope your local power company will come out and evaluate if it is on its last legs or if water intrusion might be causing problems.

The first time, the fire fighter said sometimes ice would cause that?! But it was really dramatic (it wasn't just a spark or two). It was 'raining down sparks' - had you been walking underneath - well, you would have run. By the time it happened again, neighbors next to me were out and watching. I live on a really busy street, so for them to come out to noise - means it was really loud.

I'm going to call the power company today and ask them what happened.

this is from a university so it might not be scared money, but i'm scared as the first few pages past demos are very similar to the u.s. foreign policy survey from a couple of days ago so i fear i might be rejected for duplicating this survey if i continued.

if this is the same survey posted by the same group, they really should learn how to use "completed" quals or do a turk id check for previously completed. I believe the other one was 70 cents so this pays better unless its longer than the other day.

i wouldn't be wanting to be near it if sparking because i think they seal some fluid inside the transformer and if that is some kind of acid, it might eat clothing, skin, or be irritating to breathe, get on skin or in the eyes.

good idea to call power company on the facade of wondering what happened because who knows if fire dept called them or how good of line monitoring system the power co has.

Then there's the Dead's, ''Old and in the Way''!.....geez, I'm old enough to remember both of these.
What always got my curiousity up was when by in the day, I would hear some 24 or so year old say how they would hate to be 27. Duh???:banghead:
