I think it depends where you are. I'm in the country, so I won't encounter as many problems as someone who is headed into a city every day.

But it's more deadly than the flu. So, it's important to be cautious. My worry is always my daughter. At this point, I'm really her only family - so I need to make sure she's okay. She doesn't drive yet (for those that remember, her last foray used a snowbank instead of the break, lol). So I have to make sure she'll be provided for.

I don't see it as fear mongering, but people are prob a little too upset in some areas. I AM stoked that folks are taking it seriously because when the big pandemic DOES come, it'd be just sweet if all the mistakes and nonsense that have been going on with this one are taken care of. Like a trial run!

My parents are both immune compromised and older (69, 78) so that's where my worry comes in. FIL is compromised, too.

Thems just my 2 cents.

Even if you aren't over 65, if you have respiratory diseases (asthma, COPD, sleep apena, etc), diabetes, cancer, and/or undergoing immuno-suppressing treatment (like for cancer, organ/bone marrow transplants) increase risk from dying or having major side effects. Even just catching the another virus like a cold/flu at the same time raises the risk. A man in China who recovered from the coronavirus had to have a double-lung transplant due to the damage it caused.

idk I strip the birds and make broth and keep all that stuff around and freeze parts. I know some rich ladies who feed their animals the rotisseries (I KNOW THAT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA, THEY DO NOT CARE)

That level of prepping is prob not what people are going to do (freezing bones, broth, etc) but idk. People are wild. I'm still going to see if the chicken ladies are throwing hands though.

hahahahahahaha. look at the items reported as being stocked out or in shorter supply and they are long shelf life items.

people may freeze bird parts, but that is only good as long as you have mains or a genny to keep the freezer going and even those parts might be iffy food-safety wise after a couple of years of defrost cycles.

Yep. I know of at least 3 older-ish rich-ish ladies who get rotisseries to break up and feed their pooches b/c that's "what the dogs like" I was like "but they're seasoned? Surely it's not healthy?" and was poo poo'd lol

oh lol. my farm owner buys three a week (unseasoned ones) and it is supplemented and balanced (per vet) for her dogs diet lol.

It's hard to imagine a scenario where we lose electricity that doesn't teeter on apocalypse. I'm guessing the worst case scenario is that (smart) people will have to self-quarantine for a couple weeks.

Though my worry is that people won't do that here in the DC area. This area is basically one big competition to see who will go to work sickest for no reason.

Yes, apparently it is about 3 times deadlier than the flu - it is hard to get a number b/c it is so new and apparently a lot don't know they even have it (my gf is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Children's - believe me, it IS a big deal there)

I give my cat a bit of turkey lunchmeat or canned tuna about once a week or so, but that's it. She acts like she's dying or otherwise neglected to one degree or another bc she doesn't get it for every meal, but it doesn't work on me.
