Several of us here from mturk were going to have a meet up in DC in late May. I already bought my plane ticket, but am not so sure that can happen now.

Yeah, might not happen. Even if the hotels are open at that point, you may trouble getting around, finding places to eat, and generally finding places to visit that isn't the hotel. Right now all mass gatherings of 50 or more people are prohibited, with exemptions for essential services and office/hotel/apartment buildings. Mayor’s Order 2020-048: Prohibition on Mass Gatherings During Public Health Emergency - Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Pretty much everything is closed right now: Smithsonian museums, National Zoo, movie theaters, and restaurants/bars are available for take-out and delivery only. Here's a full list of what is open and what is closed from washington.org: Coronavirus Pandemic related closures/openings.

The cat cafe and kitten lounge is closed, which I worry may close up permanently. They are taking care of the cats/kittens in the space to offload the stress from their partner rescues, which adds to the other costs of being closed. I donated $20 to their closure fund and a 12-pack of wet cat food to help feed the cats. Wish I could kick in more than that, but live largely on a fixed income.

does amazon frown on autoaccepting scripts? like the ones that automatically accept above a certain dollar amount. Has anyone gotten banned for using them?

they are aware of them. They probably don't love it, but I haven't heard of any explicit problems. There are rules about scripts in general on the amazon site - I have to head out to shovel, but you can look over their TOS regarding them.

My brother and I are supposed to go to Yosemite at the beginning of June for my birthday. I put $700 on my credit card for those plane tickets. Wheeee.


My friend in Tenerife, Spain, said the entire island is considering shutting down to tourism for 3 months. That's their entire livelihood, but it would allow them to go on with their day to day lives. She sounds minorly stressed, but understands the situation. I'm glad I went there last year.

We were planning to go to a wedding in VA mid April. Just got cancelled. And we have plane tix and a airbnb for 10 days in may for NYC. Trip chances are looking bleak...

And just as importantly, an increasing number of requesters are aware of this type of script. And they don't like it. And I've seen several complain about it. They've got to be complaining to Amazon, too.. I don't doubt that's one reason you see so many good paying HITs posted as low pay--or zero pay--and with promised bonuses. To avoid the autoaccepters getting it all. After all, the essence of the crowd is to have a large, broad range of individuals do the work. Not a select handful of aggressive script users. You must have noticed that the same handful of workers seem to always grab the best stuff. They get it when everyone else is scrabbling for just an occasional HIT--panda'ing and hoping for an abandoned HIT........And yes, I've seen some people lose their accounts and claim it was one of those scripts...I've also seen this type of scripting used ever since I've been doing this....Incidentally, at the time I started turking, Amazon TOS forbid the use of scripts. They claimed that they were bots, since they did the work for you. You can see how that worked out....all n all it's questionable. And the biggest question is when, not if, Amazon takes action.
