putting them off like crazy. Do you guys normally have someone else do them? I usually used to pay about $40 bucks to get my taxes done. How much worse would it be...to go to like H&R Block?

i do mine because i like keeping ... hundreds of dollars.

considering i like things with sequential sequences like building electronic kits, models, erector sets and legos, doing my own taxes is similar as you fill out forms in a sequence by carefully following instructions. having done my own taxes for decades also makes it easy as it more or less the same today as when i started other than the forms (the 1040 changed in appearance and structure a year or two ago) and the tax laws which have added a few wrinkles in what i need to do in my filing.

if one is paying that much for tax prep, you might as well buy software for under a hundy or use irs free federal file software if eligible and do your own taxes. it is my understanding doing your taxes with software is essentially an interview where it asks you questions, asks for your data where needed and puts them in the right spots on forms and does the calculations for you.

i thought about that but then saw you had to get irs certified to be a tax preparer and thought it might not be worth the certification process.

much easier to be a volunteer - i volunteered some time in college at the business school doing other people's simple tax returns.

Nope, just leave it open in its own tab and the script does the rest. (You can pray to the PANDA gods like I do, but I don't know if that helps at all. It just makes me feel better.)
