I didn't know @coffeeowl had such long legs!

what freaks me out is the neighborhood doves. Did you know when they feel threatened, they can shed feathers into a cloud around them in a hurry? I've seen it happen a time or two when a hawk showed up and scared the dove enough to activate this defense mechanism.

Morning everyone.

Going to have some breakfast and then heading to attend a 90-minute in-person election poll worker meeting. The BoE asked me to work as the site coordinator (basically head poll worker in charge of running the site) for the afternoon shift at one of the early voting centers and I agreed. The BoE need to do in-person swearing in of all the site coordinators due to having to be assigned as temporary BoE officials and having to receive some paperwork.

The BoE office itself is less than a 15-minute walk from my apartment and the weather's nice out today, so that makes it a bit better.

Election coordinator meeting/training lasted about 45 minutes longer than scheduled, but was not surprised as they always run at least 20 minutes longer than scheduled. At least I get paid for doing the training and being a coordinator comes with a pay raise vs other election workers ($20/hour vs $15/hour) and the voting center I'm working at is a 5-minute walk from my apartment.

Bad news is that they having a difficult time finding the 11 workers needed per shift at each center and may cut it down to as few as 8 workers for some shifts (both numbers includes the election coordinator). Normally demand outpaces supply for early voting shifts bc shifts are only 6 hours each vs the minimum 15 hour day for election day itself. Hourly pay for early voting is slightly better than election day and less setup in the morning/end of day paperwork for early voting vs election day. Though, you have to work election day itself in order to work early voting.
