Yeah, it's OTC. I get the generic as a prescription from my doc as its cheaper. GERD is often a years long, if not a lifetime thing and requires either diet change or meds. Often diet change alone doesn't help or leads to a very bland diet, so meds are usually the way to handle it. Some meds work better for others or at higher/lower doses.

I am not sure I have official Gerd (as I had a case so bad I went to urgent care, told it was Gerd, and given some tips to try, but it is not long term but occasional) but when I get that Gerd feeling, my answer is OTC heartburn relief pills for a few days, laying off spicy foods, caffeine and chocolate, eating bland food and drinking like koolaid or powerade for a few days, then I seem to be better until whenever the next incident occurs.
I lived next door to history. My next door neighbor was on the USS Utah that morning, survived the attack, served in the Pacific during the war, and was on the USS Missouri to witness Japan's signing of the surrender document. He lived into his mid 90's before dying a few years ago.
