So I do this on the side and made $9000. So would i pay roughly 15.3% social security than would it be 10% of 9000 because of the bracket? I have a regular job also that get's taxed with each paycheck also. Thanks for your help
The 15.3 social security tax is separate from the Fed income tax. The SS comes off the top - every dollar you net self-empolyed gets taxed at this rate up to $133,000 or so. What income tax bracket you belong depneds on how much you made in other self-employment, mturk, and your day job. It could be 10%, it could be 42% if you're a doc or some other high earner. More liekly somewhere in the middle. You may want to consult with a tax pro before they get uber busy.
Also, the IRS generally issues a penalty if you don't pay most of your tax liability by Jan 31, or don't file quarterlys. You prob. should ask about this too....if you're making 9K off mturk plus a day job, you might need to file quarterlys. Or adjust your witholding at your day job to account for mturk income.
Hope this helps
