what exactly does a smart plug do ? does it lets say make a regular lamp into a smart lamp or something if plugged into it ?

they are well worth it - it 's like a tv remote, once you get used to them, you'll wonder how you ever did without them. We ordered a few more today at this price. They take care of the climbing over the couch to turn off the light, born turning on lights in the bathroom in morning, turning on radio when bob and tom come on, etc
