In my state the only thing required by law is to teach about HIV and AIDS. Everything else is up to the individual school/teachers. And most people here are very conservative and would not appreciate in depth topics. I think it's kind of a shame because so many kids could benefit from it. It's such a touchy subject with so many, though.
