I wouldn't. Pascal/Polaris is around the corner (rumors pointing to June/July). Jump from 970 to 980ti would be better, but I'd still wait to see if the rumors are true. Worst case is that the card you were gonna get is gonna be the same price/cheaper. Only way I'd get a 980/980ti now would be an EVGA to use the step up program.

Yea, from what I've seen you're able to safely OC the 970 to get NEAR stock 980 performance, the only reason to bump to a 980 is heavily modded gaming or 4k resolution textures, both of which I sometimes do, but not always.
