If you have live update on, it's set to look for new posts every few seconds. If your internet or computer is slow, it could be that the live update periods are overlapping so it looks like it's constantly loading.

I don't have live update on, but sometimes when I refresh or go to a new page, I get the little spinny loading thing in the tab (cue VDX flashbacks) for at least :45. The page itself loads fine and it doesn't seem to matter whether there are gifs on the page.
