I spent years on a carb free diet, because the anti-depressants I was taking were causing me to gain weight. Seriously, I would ride my bike 15 miles a day. I went from 130 pounds to 150pounds while I was exercising every day. It wasn't worth it to me. I felt more depressed about the weight gain than I ever did about day to day life. OK, maybe that's not true. I learned from the meds that it was kind of beneficial to just get out there every day. And again, there was nothing keeping me normal, the drugs made me fat and tired. I use an amino acid supplement now. I't a better option in my opinionb.
