The Road by Cormac McCarthy, it's about a father and his son going on fun adventures throughout the country.

The first time I read The Road I was so engaged that I did not put the book down until I finished it. I was convinced that if I put the book down the characters would die.

but not really light or funny tho. If you want light and funny McCarthy, Blood Meridian is a much better choice.

The Border Trilogy are my favorites of his. Also not light!

Especially when characters are vomiting blood and dying on the beach (while fleeing from cannibals, no less).
