Really? I felt that I was probably giving you bad news, but those industrial machines get a kind of fermented taste and smell if they aren't cleaned well.

well, better than the other hypotheses out there (I thought).
IDK. I paid almost 2 dollars for something that was clearly undrinkable (it wasn't marginally sour - it was really, really, explicitly sour), when I could have gotten a free cup of coffee across the street at the supermarket (it's free there always).
And the only solace I could have is to eat one of the donuts.........but after the coffee, I'm not sure that's the ideal plan .

It depends. It might not if you're searching by group ID since the preview link might not be available. The default search url it uses doesn't restrict you to HITs that you are qualified for, although you can modify it into the url if you wanted to.

well, just got back from Dunkin' Donuts *and* Krispy Kreme. On the plus side, dd votes with DD (this is her first time there). On the minus side, they had no hot coffee (how could that be?), so I waited for them to make it fresh (that was nice) and then we left. On the way home, I started to drink it.

What would give coffee a sour taste?

Some sort of bacterial infection, most likely. If it was just mildly sour, then the coffee was probably just old/stale.

Wouldn't the heat kill most of the bacteria in the machines? Stores brew coffee pretty damn hot.

The thing about bacteria is that the bacteria itself isn't necessarily what's harmful, but rather their excrement that leads to poisonings/just generally feeling ill. Hence why if chicken or something goes bad, you can't just straight up cook it to a crisp; the bacterial waste is still in there and doesn't go away.

Well, think one of two things. The machine needed a good cleaning or they were in the middle of cleaning the machine with a water and vinegar solution when you walked in and asked for a cup. (That could explain why there wasn't any coffee already brewed) It wasn't pee. That sort of thing doesn't happen as often as you would think it does. I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy your brew though.
