Dude, be who you are and do what you want to do. I just seriously wondered about that trend and wondered about the reasons for it.
I think it originally started with lolcats, those memes that show pics of cats with quotes of things that they're supposedly saying. The spelling and grammar on those was always completely messed up intentionally, I guess because cats aren't good at spelling or grammar. I think that turned into a sort of internet slang.

My thoughts are that because you are changing the word into a previously nonexistent word, that you just invented, it makes the word feel personal and unique. Wordplay has always been equated with wit/intelligence. So, it's a way of showing off your ability to bend a phrase. This is just a version of that, I think. Not trying to argue or anything and I really don't care about the subject. I was just bored and figured I'd chime in. :)
I'm so glad you chimed in. This makes a lot of sense and honestly I'm just curious.

I've never understood this, and maybe you can help me. Why do people add a letter to a word and change it into a totally different/nonexistent word (e.g. guys vs. guiz)? It would make sense if it saved time or something but... Yeah, it doesn't. So what's the deal there?
If you want something to be fun and relaxed, you have to add a Z to it.

Example: Mental Hospital for Kids = super depressing.

Mental Hozpital for Kidz= Oh man I wanna go there that sounds like a fun time for all!

Not to mention the fact that every single word ever is technically made up...

You know, that doesn't sound right. But I don't know enough about fun and relaxation to dispute it.

Shortening a word (e.g. please = pls) makes sense, as Kryssyy demonstrates here. Changing a word entirely (guys = guiz) is a totally different thing, though, isn't it? Thanks to everyone who helped me learn something new tonight. XO
once us memers die off so will all this weird slang the younger ones won't even understand what a lolcat is :p
