So my cute little 5 or 6 week old kitty that I obtained yesterday doesn't even know what a litter box is. Awesome. I never litter trained a kitten before, have no idea where to start. I put it in there after it eats but it doesn't even scratch around, just jumps right back out.

You can buy litter box attractant litter and it may entice the kitty to try it out.

Its not too hard, most figure it out on their own, just be sure to lead there a few times a day

cats have a natural instinct to dig around and cover their poop/pee. they'll go in their on their own when they have to go, just make sure it's somewhere they can get to easily. make sure you're using a small litter box for kittens that's easy for them to get in and out of :)

Thanks, I had a litter box that was too big, so I bought a small one today and the cat still didn't want to go in it. I'll keep trying.

According to my vet, cats just "naturally" want to go in a box. I've trained several cats and with all of them I just make up the litter box, plop them into it, watch them try and figure out wtf it is, and the they just end up going there to do their thing. With a tiny kitty, do remember to get a shallow box so he or she can get into it. If you get a regular sized cat box the kitty might not be able to get over the side until s/he grows a bit :)

They like to go where they can smell that they have gone (but just a small amount - they like clean :)..........so, get some of that have gone smell (from wherever they have gone) and put it in there. And then keep them in a small quiet space (like the bathroom) after eating - or when you think they have to go.
Good luck!

I had a semi feral kitten at one point, had no clue about the litter box at all. would pee in my floor constantly. I had to get a little createive to eventually get it trained. Its probably a little mean but what eventually worked was I'd put it in a small closet at dinner time. just enough room for it to stand next to its food and water with the liter box beside it. I keep checking every few minutes to see if it had gone in the liter box, as soon as it did I let it out. It was trained in about four days.

The litter called "Cat Attract" is pricey but worth it for training in my experience, it already has some attractant added and they worked out the texture cats like best too :)
