Hey, married peeps, can someone explain to me how joint taxes work?
I submitted my dad's joint tax forms but my school's still requesting my stepmom's taxes separately? To me, this makes no goddamn sense, because they filed together, right?
Is that not how joint taxes work?

FWiW, Xenforo doesn't do nested quotes, so if you want to make sure he sees this, you would need to either quote him directly instead of yourself or tag him.
Felt dumb enough for that so prob good i did it that way..... of course the fact that I just could have chosen not post that at all didn't occur to me ...:cautious:

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but google isn't being helpful, and my school shows no sign of answering their fucking phones (I've been on hold for a good 30 minutes)

You're right about filing jointly. That's all they should need from our dad/stepmom. Is it possible they want your mother's tax return?

I might be wrong, but a joint return would have both of their names on it, not just one. If it just has his name on it then yeah, they need her return, too, to establish income.

But it has both of their names on it, and they're still requesting a separate return?
Joint taxes DOES mean one return, right?
