Careful with Prezi as it's not clear who owns the content once created. Doesn't matter for your average school presentation, but if you're publishing important academic research or scientific discoveries I'd be weary to make one there.
I didn't know this! Thankfully I only use it for stuff I don't mind sharing with other teachers, but I will definitely keep in this mind when I advance my career. Thanks for the tip!

I have tried to learn prezi! OMG I hate it. Admittedly, it was around midnight and I was trying to work on dd's Prezi  -

In the end, I managed something that was readable and looked okay, but with all those steroids, it was clear I was chasing the prezi, rather than mastering it
prezi is cool and it can really make a presentation pop. I really feel like its good for marketing presentations or something where you really want to make your product shine. Or if you're trying to entertain kids to keep them from falling asleep.

That's awesome i'm glad you're getting back into it. I know a lot of people turk 'cause health situations mental or physical get in the way and that's great but if there's a way i always encourage a more stable form of income :)
Yeah, It has been a ride, that's for sure! I'm really excited about getting back out there.

I would say most modern professors use some type of visual aid like powerpoint, overhead projectors (those old guys still like em), pc screen casting which is cool, and the 'ol whiteboard lol. I'm glad you're preparing them the right way which is both to be visual learners and still be able to handle lectures that aren't so visual. Best way to prepare for the future is to give them the tools to handle the variety of teaching styles. 90% of em won't remember the little details of the class anyway but the tools for learning are forever
Critical thinking is my main goal. The main goal of the government is to pass tests and be master bubblers. I'm an education anarchist (kek) :onfire:

My modern profs were all boards/talking. I actually enjoyed it more that way to be honest... but I know most of my friends hated it. This is history mind you so I was deeply interested. Especially in the core classes I got to choose, I chose classes closest to my personal favorite things.

It can be tough to learn. Took me a week of watching YouTube videos and reading help sites. Once you master it though, I honestly prefer it over Powerpoint. I can't figure out how to do half of the cool stuff I can do on Prezi in Powerpoint!

I can see where it would be really useful for marketing presentations. I teach 2nd grade, so it is perfect for keeping the kiddos engaged in the lesson. I found with Powerpoint most of them were zoning out. Not sure if it would work in the higher grade levels...

I feel like in higher levels the students start to listen more, as hard as that may to believe, but if the teacher doesn't convey some energy and enthusiasm for the topic people just go back to zoning out no matter what visual aid is being used.

That's what I do with class choices too! I try and make sure it's something that can actually benefit me in my career path (I'm going into forensic accounting). So my classes have all been accounting (obv), criminal justice, psych, sociology, and business classes. No History of Rock and Roll here (no matter how much I want to take it lol). I'm going to be almost 40 by the time I hit the job market, so I'm doing everything I can to make myself desirable to employers.

Generally. I have a music background too and help with that. Also have Psych. Thats pretty much it though. My friend is a Drum Tech and hes making 2k for a week of work helping a band and he might hook me up with a Trumpet Tech job doing the same during marching season so that will be nice if it happens.

I enjoy teaching but I'm starting not to enjoy the way education is being controlled.(Rather not get into politics rofl) So I'm probably gonna turk full time for a bit to see what happens. I'm not going back next year currently.

I think at your age that's important to keep focused but don't completely rule out some fun classes like that. Knowledge comes in all forms and a little bit of enjoyment will benefit you and you'll be much more motivated in the core classes you take along with it.

yeah it is rather annoying and teachers like you make quite a difference to students before they enter college where the tools to effectively learn really have a greater impact. I was fortunate that most of my classes in highschool were taught by teachers like you who understood the problem of just teaching to pass a test.

100%. Also depends on who you are teaching too. I try and make things fun but I'm pretty creative so its easier... and probably crazy/eccentric helps as well. I'm a goofball.

Some teachers get into ruts though and don't look at other programs you can use. Students now are so tech savvy that I employ more tech lessons into my curriculum. Googles word docs lets me look at 7 groups of 30 students total as they group work/edit the document. I tab between them and then put up good examples in real time and explain them using our smart tv's. Thats probably the most "futuristic tech" type of lessons I do though. I also make games using programs that are already out. It lets students use computers/smart phones as a buzzer to answer questions. It gives me real time information of % correctly answered and I can discuss something everyone misses. The student who wins gets a bonus for being prepared and I get a quality review over material and they have fun/like competing.

I think it's because I'm a young guy new to the profession. There are still great teachers I have met that are older but they still care about their professions to keep up on methods. Most just like the pay check/security. I think it helps that I know what students want being close to their age.

Haha yeah I can definitely attest to eccentric being more entertaining especially at the highschool level. I think its just unique enough that sets you apart from some of their more boring teachers and they look forward to your class.
That's really good that you use some cutting edge technology since the students are already used to using it and are more comfortable with it. It gets quite annoying when someone wants you to use an archaic system that you need to learn how to use when you know of a more efficient system. But i guess that's part of learning how to work in various environments but the students won't know that then its just a pain in the ass to them lol
