I have those in every room. Since i usually cant fall asleep until the birds start singing in the mornings i actually have the curtains velcroed to the wall in the bedroom so no light comes through. Still gets hot though just because the sun is directly on the window for the majority of the day. Thats a problem with west to east facing houses lol

Ahh, shoot. Maybe you could get some fans going or invest in one of those portable AC's to have as a backup. Though Liz's suggestion was pretty good to for having a backup generator.
