I will tell you, it's worth it. I often get way more than I can use and I only get a half share.

Community Supported Agriculture.

I get a box of fresh, organic, locally grown fruit and produce each week. It's a subscription service. It is dropped off by the farmer at a pickup location and I just drive there and pick it up (the location is less than a mile from my job, I could walk there but lately the watermelons have been so friggin' heavy).

I love it. Sometimes I get too much of something and end up giving it away...but now I'm not giving away cauliflower!

We do this too, it's great. Really fills out what we get from our little garden. Since we eat mostly vegetarian we usually only have to go to the grocer for cleaning supplies and spices. With the occasional need for meat or something. It's a little harder in the winter... the garden is an aquaponic rig so it runs in the winter too, but the CSA doesn't.

It takes a long time for it to start being a stable producer... the ecosystem has to build up and level out. Be prepared for a fairly labor intensive/mico-managy experience at first. But... the veggie/fish harvests start rolling out and things get wonderful. I've got mine set up in a sort of poor man's greenhouse so it can run in the winter too, and that makes it more stable because I have everything automated using a raspberry pi.... so fans kick on when it is too hotin there, my one little sprinkler gives a spritz at intervals like the grocery store... the lamps come on and off to augment the sun... it can even warm the area up in the winter if it gets too cold...

I totally flaked on a summer garden this year. Spring was so crazy for my kid that I never got it planted. I'm about ready to rip out all the overgrown lettuce that has somehow survived and prepare it for a fall/winter garden. Mine is above ground, and I have chicken wire around it to keep cats out. I then put heavy plastic over it for the winter to make a little greenhouse

My CSA is year round thank goodness. I can't wait for the fall gourds to show up!

This looks yummy!

Cut up into florets and even smaller pieces, toss in grapeseed oil and salt, roast it at ~400F ~45 minutes (stir occ) and it will completely disappear.
