"Many of Amazon’s least-paid workers aren’t in its warehouses, but online. They’re the workers of Mechanical Turk, (MTurk) Amazon’s marketplace where companies can request for individuals, referred to as Turkers, to complete micro-sized tasks, called Human Intelligence Tasks (HITs), in exchange for pennies a pop. The tasks vary widely, and can include transcription, writing, editing, and content moderation, among many other things.

If you go to MturkCrowd.com, most of those turkers are masters and averaging $200-2000 a week. Between $50-800 a day,” MarciTX told me."

I wonder what gave her the impression that most people here are Masters.

Sounds as legit as the pay ranges--most turkers will never see $800 in one day

To make $800 in a day, you'd have to max at 3800 doing HITs paying $4.75 EACH.

I contacted the journalist to see if it was a typo when she wrote $50-800. She said it wasn't her typo. It was exactly what MarciTX had told her. So maybe MarciTX made a typo when communicating to the journalist. I'm pretty sure she meant $50-80/day.

You could hit $800 with 3800 HITs at a little more than .21 each.

But yeah, still ridiculous to assert that an $800 dollar day would be anything other than an huge anomaly. :blep:

I'm not much of a math person myself. I've had like one handful of $800+ days, but most were bonuses or bonus-containing HITs. And most turkers don't have Masters, whether they're on a forum or not. It just sounds like MarciTX was a shill for the article or extremely misinformed.

I googled her, cause I'm a creep like that. She's a reddit poster and it looks like she just lurks on all the forums. I'm leaning towards the "Wildly misinformed" side.

Damn even 1 800 dollar day seems pretty freaking impressive. That's like almost triple my best. What kind of bonuses are we talking to get to that amount?
