Teach him to cook, clean, do his own laundry, and for god's sake make him shoot for A's and B's, both are easily obtainable just by doing the homework and some studying. just my opinion, but as a parent you have to stay on top of them, unless they prove they are trust worthy. But as I said this is my opinion and every kid is different

I have to add that when he asked me to teach him to cook he said to me, "Mom, let's start with college food. Let's start with the food I'll be able to afford when I move out. Potatoes. Bacon. Eggs. Top Ramen (lol), rice. I can learn the fancier stuff when I can afford it!"

When you stop doing that, just know that's the point when your usually wrong. I found that out earlier today with my opinion I couldn't have been more wrong if I tried. In my defense the Military is vastly different than civilian life, we teased the fuck out of each other, but we loved each other like brothers, regardless.

I grew up surrounded by military folks (or ex ones). They teased like crazy. It wasn't until my 20s when I realized that they only did that because they trusted that I knew they loved me, they thought I could take it, and they thought I was worth their time to tease.

Wish I had figured that out in my teens tho, lol!

I tease my kid on purpose. One time so badly he said, "You're MOM! You're supposed to be safe!" I felt horrid. I told him later, "you don't have a dad here to tease your and your sister who would have taken care of this died, so it's all on me! I gotta play all roles! Man up, dude! You know I love you."
