It's hard to say. It's definitely not the same game that it was 12 years ago. But as far as expansions go, I think it's at least the best in the last 7 or 8 years.

Honestly, I'm the wrong person to be asking. I've been off and on with that game since 2005. The fact that I'm more sucked in now than i have been in over 6 years probably means nothing to someone that hasn't played in ages. It's still WoW, if that's what you're wondering. It still runs on the same engine and operates under many of the same concepts. But it feels very much less like a 2000s RPG type game, these days. If you're familiar with the Diablo games at all, much of the inspiration for the current expansion seems to come from that.

It's not straight Diablo, but the whole world quest and pvp prestige systems are all very much inspired by things that have existed in Diablo3 for a long time.
