It's been a few years, but we helped out Margie Burton of the UCSD Antro Dept. doing some desorptive electrospray ionization mass spectrometry of some pottery shards in order to extract chemical information about the contents of the pots. Anyway, I think she's still at UCSD so you may cross paths with her while you're there.
