People were flat out scamming these. Submitting them without entering anything, repeating the same answers for everything, randomly filling stuff in, you name it. I wouldn't be surprised if over half of their data was just tossed out because they let it go unchecked for so long.
i'm assuming if a requester puts a 1 min AA, and somebody scams them, they are SOL for their money? their only recourse being to block?

Yeaaaah it sounded weird to me too. I would question how safe my account would be under someone else's SS.

Probably just because mturk is the best work-from-home solution. At least...if you don't have your own business or something. I like the freedom it provides. It would definitely suck to have to build a new account...but I'd rather have a fresh start than be blocked permanently from such a good source of revenue.

Pretty much. I advocate to all requesters that I work for that they allow enough time for them to go through and check for scammer. They should allow for some mistakes here and there since we are human, but if you are getting more than 10% wrong, you should get rejected. Blocks reserved for those blatantly scamming. Lemme dig something up.

i'd worry about more than just my account safety considering social security numbers

Not all work is bad. Here is a piece of data from a requester.

Turkers were within 96% which is good considering this was done with relatively low qualifications attached to the HIT.

Yeah that is true as well. That's why I find the option so odd. I would never feel comfortable doing that on my account, let alone feel comfortable enough to ask a relative for their SS for work purposes. Just seems like too many things could go wrong lol.

Hell, I've seen people on here admit to scamming.
That's just wrong. I do my best no matter if it's a paid job or a free job. But that's just how I was raised. You should always do your best. Even if the job is sucky. If you agree to do it you should do it well. Just my opinion.
