If I'm not mistaken, at one point, the instructions said the qual was auto-granted. I've seen people get it after x HITs no email. I've not, personally, heard of anyone getting it with an email and NO HITs. I'm pretty sure you have to do, at least some, so that it can give you a rating of any sort and have a score for your Mturk ID in their system.

Who got it without an email?

Unless this was like 3+ years ago, there has never been anything in their instructions about the qual.

Honestly, I can't remember. Plus, it's the internet so, who can you really trust. I'll trust that you're probably right and I'm just confused.
