The main consensus seems to be Intel. I'll just go with that. Plus, they had a booth at Austin Makerfaire so I feel obligated to buy from them since they gave me a notepad and a pen. Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll post in the builds thread once I get everything in. Just got my case today so I am pretty excited.

Kadauchi @Kadauchi did you put out a fix for the HIT DB issue where it duplicated some entries a few months ago? I think back in september maybe.
The old fix doesn't work anymore. You have to export your Database, look at it and delete duplicate entries and then import the database.

Intel processors 100%. GPU, rx 470 is a good card, about 85-90% the performance of a gtx 970 for only $150. AMD typically has good bang for the buck when it comes to their cards, but nvidia dominates the high end cards.

Got it, I'll make sure everything is compatible before hand, my significant other built one last year so she's got some experience. I've had this mobile workstation for about 4 years and I want to put something together before it starts failing. It's still pretty powerful but I'd like to be able to game on my computer, and do more stuff with audio/video, and have more than 2 monitors... and there's no HDMI slot on this thing.

Meh, I've been down the AMD "bang for your buck" road before. Its not really worth it imo. Spend the extra on the gtx.

All you have to really do is make sure your motherboard has the right socket for your CPU and that your ram matches the motherboard (DDR3/4). Everything else is interchangeable.

I think Intel gets the nod from most folk because: 1.) it's the better known processor used in most computers by 'default,' and, 2.) it's the better known processor used in most computers by 'default.' I've an AMD in my 'puter and it does just fine. Unless one is a 'processor geek,' I don't think there is a demonstrable difference. Which do you prefer? A Chevy or a Ford?
