All of my December bills are already paid. $500 means I can get the presents done and be comfortable with/for January rent. I can continue Turking hardcore through the first part of January to make up for what I won't be putting in savings, etc.

You could always send them a card saying something like " I donated $100 to needy children in your behalf", and then a certificate or something. Those are great because not only do they get nothing, you get to feel superior about it. No one will ever ask you for gifts again.

I agree with this. Rather than stress yourself out over making $500 by the end of the month for gifts, can you reduce the number (or size) of the gifts? Maybe do something handmade (bake cookies!) or another alternative like that. Good luck!

My SIL makes candied pecans every year and puts them in mason jars. Soooo good.

edit: This is not a useful tip for people that don't have pecan trees.
