you gotta section off a part of the house. so if its one bed room, you only do your business stuff in there. my tax folks said i could section off a walk in closet, for example. You guys can't write off a portion of your house/mortgage apartment/rent, phone, computer, electricity, office supplies, etc...?
I made about the same as you and was super scared when I estimated about the same in SE taxes. Luckily it looks like dependents, student loan interest and preschool payments should cover than and still give me a sizeable return.Well I made $22,020.63 in 2016 and I don't have hardly any deductions and I will be paying over $3000 in SE taxes.
I can get a little bit but not enough to make a difference. You guys can't write off a portion of your house/mortgage apartment/rent, phone, computer, electricity, office supplies, etc...?
Drop in the bucket pretty muchI can get a little bit but not enough to make a difference.
Yeah the dependents are the only thing saving me this year of it coming out of pocket. But not too big of a return and I more worried about the government help we get.I made about the same as you and was super scared when I estimated about the same in SE taxes. My tax prepare guy includes my phone, phone bill, anything I buy for my PC (paper, ink, upgrades, internet bill, anti-virus subscriptions, etc...) electric bill, pens, calculators, office supplies, courses (udemy, in your case). Last year, between school write-offs and mturk - it made a significant difference. Only reason I'm not doing the "room in home" thing is because I'll be renting this out when I move and according to him, it makes things pretty complicated when a dwelling with a "office portion for tax reasons" is turned into a rental property.you gotta section off a part of the house. so if its one bed room, you only do your business stuff in there. my tax folks said i could section off a walk in closet, for example.

you consider renting out your property for airbnb? It could potentially make you more money if its located in a high trafficked area. this guy rents property and then sets it up for airbnb:My tax prepare guy includes my phone, phone bill, anything I buy for my PC (paper, ink, upgrades, internet bill, anti-virus subscriptions, etc...) electric bill, pens, calculators, office supplies, courses (udemy, in your case). I live in a fairly small town (population ~7,526) about 20 minutes from a "large town" Lafayette, LA (population ~490,488). I don't think many airbnb clients would flock to my humble abode, unfortunately. Unless I'm completely mistaken.you consider renting out your property for airbnb? he's able to charge more on the day to day basis since the stay is short term. his strat is to make 2x on the rent. I actually bought his course on udemy to see how they set the whole thing up.

all good. still good to talk about the hustle. never know where ideas may lead (like you finding mturk from reddit or someone). the rental airbnb properties are actually not even close to him. they're on the west coast but he's been currently traveling in thailand. he does have 2 other business partners that he shares the 10 properties with.I live in a fairly small town (population ~7,526) about 20 minutes from a "large town" Lafayette, LA (population ~490,488). I was thinking more just your average home rental. 2 Similar homes in the neighborhood with a somewhat smaller square footage are renting for ~ $1,700 monthly
