What @MerryLou is saying is correct. BUT, I think they were working for you before without refreshing the page because we had the tab/favicon alerts add-on enabled for everyone, which uses a request to the server. So that would also cause the regular alerts on the flag to pop up. Since we've disabled the tab/favicon alert, you're not getting a refresh on the page every 30 seconds.

Excuse maybe the dumb question, and sorry since you seem to be getting a ton of questions but will it work if i donate? I think a page or so back you or somebody else said @Kadauchi was working on a fix

Two different features.

Favicon is that thing on the tab, looks like a green folder. - Kad is workin on a fix for this.
Flag is a flag inside the forum/browser tab. - Does not require fix. Is not instant though.

I know my old school starts today, and they're on semester as well. A bunch of schools either way started, and I can tell because the amount of work tripled lol

Yes, if you donate, you'll get the red flag notification every time the page auto updates. The tab/favicon notification has been disabled entirely.
