I am so sorry about that - we were only using them for research purposes, and were just trying to make participation easier. Because of this, M-Turk is demanding that we reject all HITs. We've begged for another way, but they will not give us a better option. We are very sorry, truly wanted to run this program with you. It is out of our control. You will be bonused 25 cents.

My weekly is only $100. I shoot for an average of $20 a day with two days off turking.

You can use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of every MTurk page. When I want a human response, I write in there something like "do not send me an automated response. I need to talk to a human at MTurk about this." In the past, I've had some success with it.

I'm also posting this on Twitter. Doing that has gotten some attention from MTurk before.

I actually had emailed her about the HIT this morning since I hadn't gotten a text. Her response was this:

Thank you for checking in! Unfortunately it was brought to our attention that by asking for phone numbers, we unknowingly violated M-Turk's terms of service. I am so sorry about that - we were only using them for research purposes, and were just trying to make participation easier.

So, unfortunately we had to cancel the second part. You will definitely be paid for the first part - we are just now working with M-Turk to figure out how to adjust the reward without rejecting you (definitely do not want to make your approval rating suffer!).

Again I am very sorry about that - it was not our choice to cancel the program, and we did not know it would be against the terms of use when we posted it.

Let me know if you have any other questions at all, and hopefully your reward should be processed ASAP (as soon as customer service gets back to me).

I'm guessing mturk wouldn't let them approve the HITs but not pay for them, but that's not really mturk's fault. I'd expect to see TO carpetbombing here shortly.

Absolutely true. It's baffling that MTurk would require requesters to take their money back when they WANT to pay workers (and thus give MTurk their cut of the fee).
