OT since it's slow: Anyone ever work from their couch? The living room is my favorite room in the house. The most cheerful and well lit. I've also got my bearded dragons in here to watch when I need a break from the screen. So... any tips to make working from the couch easier? Right now I balance the laptop on the arm and curl up into the corner. I'm thinking something like those hospital tray tables would be awesome.... What do you do? (I'm picturing in a few years, I'll be Gilbert Grape's mom) I guess I could put a desk in here but it would ruin my view out the windows.

I work from my couch everyday. I set up my monitors on a tv stand and moved part of my sectional couch right in front of them, pretty much the greatest thing ever.

I'm at the desk about half the time and the couch half the time. I just put the laptop on my lap and feet on an ottoman. It's not ergonomically amazing but as long as I shift around every so often and don't sit for too long, it's okay. I don't use an external mouse when I'm on the couch, though. I think the Computers and Gear post had some non-desk set ups?

That's the only way I turk. I have a lap desk that I put the laptop and mouse on. And sit on one of the recliner ends of my sectional so I can adjust my position every so often. I can look out into my backyard or look at my tv for breaks.

I also don't have any other alternative except my kitchen table or on my bed as my son has control of our desk.

I do use a mouse and use my knee for a mousepad. :) thanks for the link. Will check it out.

I'm looking at something like this to turk with my laptop in bed (it's $250 at the manufacturer's site). It's pretty big though.

OT: I'm spending my Valentine's Day cleaning out my bedroom. As in spring cleaning out. Everything gets evaluated and I have to decide if I'm keeping, donating, or trashing. This will take me a long time (my bedroom was the original living room of this house, so it's quite large). I need to get rid of at least 1/3 of what's in there.

The kid and I were supposed to go to Gold Country today but as we didn't get back from the SF Bay Area until late last night he asked if he could have a "rest" day at home today. Feeling kinda bad we aren't doing anything for Valentine's Day, so I'm thinking of at least taking him to a movie. I'm trying to raise him right so when he's got a gf or wife he doesn't blow this day off!

Happy Vday! Tomorrow, I'm going to the grocery store to buy a fuckload of cheap chocolate.
Same. My grocery store still has Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff in their clearance section, though. So maybe I'll pick up a box of pumpkin spiced muffin mix, a chocolate Santa, AND some cheap Valentine's candies.

I work from the kitchen table, which has a direct view of the TV in the living room. My kitchen table is high enough that I can both stand and sit. Sometimes I will take the laptop to the couch, but I cant stand using the couch cushion as a mouse pad. I've looked at various trays that would come over the side of the couch, but I don't think Mrs. Escobar would ever allow it.

I work from the couch all the time. b/f drilled holes in the bottoms of the legs of the coffee table and stuck in wheels from Home Depot, so I can now move it back and forth depending on where I want the laptop to be, and whether we're using it as a coffee table or a place to work.
