It's been years for me, and I've not been banned. Perhaps the bans, if they're happening are more directed to folks actually using a VPN whilst originating elsewhere? Or using the VPN to spoof requirements that folks are setting?

I would say that's more likely. A lot of times the details we've had before about people being suspended that were using vpns have been suspicious.
