Aw, I hope he's doing well. I just thought I kept missing him due to my erratic schedule/sleep issues.

I only knew about the rings because my grandma had my grandpa's in her jewelry box and told me about them. I wasn't allowed to ask my grandpa. He lied about his age and enlisted at 16, and understandably did not like discussing the war at all. I can't imagine the things he must have seen/done. I've learned a lot thanks to books, Band of Brothers and Ken Burns docs, though.

I am forever amazed at the fact that so many young men lied about their age so they could enlist in the military during WWII.

Band of Brothers was excellent, and a good "take" on WWII (with emphasis on Airborne, of course).
