Hi. I noticed you're using Amazon's state quals to limit who can accept your survey. I wanted to let you know that if it's critical for your survey that you only access workers from those states, using the state quals isn't reliable. Accounts are often locked into the state where they're created and Amazon has said that they cannot be changed (which is a known issue they haven't yet addressed, although this issue is years old). Personally, I'm forever trapped with US-WA although I've lived in California for four years now.

i think you're overestimating how much of an issue this is. this most likely impacts such a minor subset of the mturk community.

Regardless of how many people it affects, it's an important thing for requesters who use the state qualifications to know when setting up their HITs, especially if having participants exactly in those states is a critical factor in their research.

but having it being open to everyone just leaves the door open for people to lie about their state to get qualified to take it. I actually think the state qual is a better method of prevention than not using it.

Oh, I'm not advocating they leave it open to everyone without any quals on it, but there are other methods you can use, like a qual HIT.
