I wish I were joking. I spent part of my childhood in the south. Teacher still read us Br'er Rabbit when we were in 1st grade.
They still do paddlings in school too, but only by parental request is it still OK for schools to whip yo kids here..

I remember moving here in 3rd grade from a nice town somewhere else, and the first day the teacher pulled out a paddle with holes in it, said this is what she uses on bad kids.. The paddle itself had a name, idr what though.

If I can't see the workbooks I can't help her, so I bought a second set of books. No one is requiring me to :p Except my brain I guess.
You're a good parent! That kind of involvement helps kids! It just seems to me you could look at the workbooks with her when she is studying, because the point is knowing how to do the work, not getting the right answer. So you would never need the book at the same time she is with the teacher. I'm glad you are able to afford the extra books, though!

I'm the teacher (and sister.) And I'm in Alabama and she's in Texas, so it's not like I can reach over and grab the book from her :) Sorry I wasn't more clear, it's a confusing situation.

They're in two different geographic places, though.
Oh, I see. So the parent and the student and the teacher are in 3 different locations, is that what you are saying? Because if the parent and the student are in the same place, they still wouldn't need to use the book at the same time. And it would be unethical for the student's family to pay for the teacher's textbook - that is a cost of teaching. I know that I need help sometimes - I am terrible at math, and have some mathematical work to do. When I am asking my own family to help me with my homework (at my age, it's the kids helping the parent, go figure!) I just tell them the problem, or take a quick picture with my phone if there's something I don't know. Which happens more than it should, let me tell you!

I GET IT NOW! Duh! My kids are in NJ and HI, and help me - I'm in KY - so I really do have sympathy for this situation.
