Aww congrats! Linguistics is fun. I had to take a few courses for my Anthro degree. And one of my good friends graduated with a MA in Linguistics from Ohio State. He was going for PhD, but said fuck this, as did I.

it's a way to validate a survey. Some things SHOULD correlate (like if you check that you are sad, feel guilty then that correlates with depression). Some things are thrown in to see that they DON'T correlate (if they did, that tells them there is something wrong with the instrument - the survey).
