The swirled lines represent the snail's eternal struggle, it's perpetual confusion at the state of it's life, it's utter anguish at the bleak and unforgiving nature of life on this earth. The bold, blacker than black pen strokes have been applied forcefully and with clear intention by the artist. The flowing, organic lines of the snails smile mask his true inner turmoil and evoke a deceptively sweet, almost child-like aesthetic. The use of empty space, rather than any natural pattern on the snail's shell stands in stark contrast to the bold and marked outlines of the nautilus. It again echoes the pure emptiness and misery of life lived as the lowest of creatures, the life of a snail.

Guess what I just did? It's a good thing and a bad thing.

Bad: I have less free time.

Good: I just became a member of the Library Foundation Board for my county. We support the 13 libraries in my county.

So, I officially get to put "Board Member of...." on my resume from here on out. And I get to rub elbows with neato people.

The person who recruited me is my kid's former principal. We met because he ended up in her office SEVEN times in his kindergarten year (more times in the years after that). Guess my response to having an incorrigible kid paid off.

I'm a member of the Board!

I can't seem to find a good gif to follow that up. Anyone got a good gif for that?

Best part is one of the biggest things we do is fund the Summer Reading Program for kids. Which reaches thousands of children in this county.

To me, that is amazing. The library was my after school care program when I was younger. I'm so glad I can give back!

(and, I am now checking to make sure all my fines are current because wouldn't that be embarrassing?)

We have a huge event soon coming up where we earn most of our money. One of the auctions is desserts.

We totally joked about "edibles". Kind of an iterative idea...buy some, eat some, need to buy more...

It came up tonight that the City board is considering a sales tax on that. We decided that entire tax needs to fund the libraries.

I mean, that would totally fit right in and get way more support!

(we don't get to decide the tax, we were just dreaming. but when they joked about that I decided I wanted to join the board.)
