I was just talking about the horrible surveys. No intention to misrepresent your quote. I hate it when a survey claims to be about a product or something innocuous like that, but one page in you find yourself answering questions about your sexual behavior. That's all.
Lol, I know...I was being silly

Somewhat related: There was a segment on NPR yesterday where they gave a survey to people with logic-type math questions in it. One group of people saw a title and description that was something like Math Skills Test and the other group saw something like Thinking Problems. The group that was given the one labeled "math test" did worse than the one that had the one labeled something more generic and vague. The point was that the title and description changed how people did on the survey, even if the survey questions were the same.

I'll see if I can find the article, but to be honest, it makes perfect sense. I would jump on a survey that claims to be about solving math problems, not so much if they want to know what color my vibrator is. Just saying. Maybe we're used to that kind of bait and switch here on Mturk, but the general pop probably isn't.

I just found it and it's mostly what I was remembering. Here's the relevant bit: "She then ran an experiment with Christians and non-Christians volunteers who were asked to solve problems of logic. Christian volunteers reminded about the stereotype that Christianity and science don't mix did worse than Christian volunteers who weren't reminded of the stereotype. This, of course, is classic stereotype threat. She also found that when she gave volunteers a test, Christians did worse when she labeled the test as a test of scientific ability, rather than a test of intuitive ability, even though the test was exactly the same."

The whole thing:

I've listened to this twice now, and quite frankly it bothers the shit out of me. Do people who identify as Christians really fail at the logic problem exercises, or do they just opt out early on because of the qualifiers? And what are the questions? I really want to know.

I'm trying to catch up on the second season of Serial, but the content is less than captivating for me in this second season. Too much of a patriot I think. I'm probably going to have to go check out the Making of a Murderer thing on Netflix.

Never got it, remember, I don't read the forum start to finish anymore :p
Every Saturday at 10:30pm EST. I can link you to the IRC info. Probably Prince of Thieves next week, though it was supposed to be Peggy Sue Got Married (I think).

The plot thickens. It looks like this may have been done on MTurk. The researcher named in the NPR story has Turkopticon reviews that sound quite a bit like the described study: https://turkopticon.ucsd.edu/reports?id=A2U3HRTZ3BKJDP

And here's the research: http://spp.sagepub.com/content/early/2015/07/30/1948550615598378.abstract
