A year is way too long! My sister had three cards. I had no problem cancelling the first two. They were cancelled immediately and I received no bills from them after that. I don't remember what bank they were from, because I had no problems. The only one I remember was Capital One. I got the death certificate from the funeral director and mailed it to Capital One. I got one bill after that, which I ignored.

Yeah we got the death certificates and presented them very quickly. All his other accounts were closed quickly with no problems. They kept coming back with some excuse or saying there was a fee etc. etc. Our lawyer took it over and it took yes, a full year for them to finally officially close the accounts! Will never do business with them myself.
