Random, but I'm not sure where else to ask. Has anyone else been impacted by the Equifax breach? I checked on their site and it says they believe I may have been impacted and to finish enrolling on 9/13.
I'm pretty sure everyone has been impacted. No reassurance, I know.

Word to everyone here, there WILL be a class action. If you sign up for this protection you will NOT be allowed to be in this class action suit. Place a freeze on your credit if you don't have one already that is all you need to do.

143 million plus are involved that is why they are giving you a later date to finish enrollment. I would NOT enroll as I plan on being in the class action and know a freeze will do more then monitoring will do.

This is what I do for a living (well part of it).
Feel free to PM me, anyone here. I literally was on a call for 2 hours about this today

There's a huge discussion about this on Reddit right now. Apparently if you give them the info to check if you've been affected, you are auto-enrolled in their credit protection for one year (for free) and you waive any right to legal action in the future.

ohhhh ok, I thought the enrollment was to get more info about if I was impacted. I mean, my credit was wrecked by my asshole husband so it doesn't really matter. I don't really care about a year of credit monitoring. How much does a single person stand to gain from the class action, though?

oh wtf, so even just checking like I just did (and not enrolling at the later date they gave me) was auto-enrolling?

No way to tell right now it's so earlier. It would depend on how bad it wrecked havoc on your credit I would think. But still I won't give up my rights to be involved in any legal action when I can just place a security freeze ( I already have one but you know what I mean).

Not true. You have to go back on the date they give you and actually enroll in this. I literally was on the phone with equifax counsel today about tons of things and this came up.

I really think that one year is a poor offer they are offering us. Honestly, we deserve a lifetime monitor. People trusted them. One year is not enough. People got there Social Security numbers breached seems way worst than credit card breach. I use to work in the credit card security business. They always try to sell protection, but if these hackers want the info they will get it seems. IMHO.
Time to go back to paper and file cabinets,as things were safer. lol.

Montoring is pointless, by the time you find out it's too late. A Freeze is the only way to ensure nothing gets opened up and even in that case people can still open utilites in your name as most of them do not verify anything. There will always be hackers and always a way to hack.

I kind of need there to be...job security.

It is slightly disturbing how little work I've been able to find on here this week. Just paid $170 I don't have at the car repair shop, and need to be a $200-300 part for my ex to install for another $60-100 (rent a lift at a shop) next week. Oh and vet bills. This has got to stop!!! :(
