I need work to distract me. I'm tired of making phone calls and leaving a gazillion messages... Tried to see if our landlord would accept the FEMA reimbursement money we're getting this week for this and next months rent. She emailed me back and claims she posted an eviction notice to our door on Sept 11th (the day the hurricane hit, while the area was under mandatory evacuation). What she emailed me has no judge signature and is something I could've easily typed out myself on word. Any help finding someone I can report her to or an attorney I can actually talk to would be greatly appreciated.

In the mean time... someone feed me more hits!!!

Are you trying to get back in there (instead of Alabama), and did you try the pro bono thing?

We've had it twice a week since July. I don't think there's much we haven't tried. Same with zucchini. I liked zucchini before this summer. Haven't tired of tomatoes yet, though.

Have you tried leaving it alone and ordering a pizza?

So not only did you offer up enough to get caught up on rent but next month rent tells me they just want you gone. You probably could offer a year of rent up front and extra money just because and they still would act this way.

Do you know any of the other tenants? The owner might be trying to ditch the property and just wants everyone gone.

My husband is going to try and go this week to get some more things like our keepsakes. But there's no way we can get furniture etc. We're going to lose over half of our things because of this. We're moving on and looking for a place in Alabama... but what she did is not right and I really want to report her. Not to mention I bet she keeps my $800 security deposit on top of causing me to lose over half of our stuff. I'm just floored that she can get away with doing something like this to a family during a mandatory hurricane evacuation of what they were predicting to be worse than Katrina...

I was trying to do the right thing and pay the money I owed instead of breaking a lease. Guess we're moving to Alabama after all. I haven't had any luck getting through to an attorney yet. Either I'm leaving a message on their voicemail or talking to an assistant that barely takes any info and says they'll get back with me. How is what she's doing not illegal?

surely there's rules against 3 day pay or quits in areas impacted by acts of god/disasters?

are they being illegally evicted? (despite being behind without a judge's approval)
